28 Dec 5 simple steps for a new and improved you
As another year draws to a close, a new one begins. And with any new beginning comes opportunity. Add affirmations and intentions to your New Year’s resolutions then you’ll keep them active and alive throughout the year. Welcome the new year in with these 5 simple but extremely important steps and say hello to an instantly new and improved version of you.
Don’t underestimate the power of affirmations, so begin the year with powerful affirmations that will work specifically for you. Write them down, and stick them where you’ll see them every day – a door, mirror, fridge or set them in your calendar alerts each morning. Repeat them 20 times. Do this every day and that way they’ll enter your subconscious and will be programmed to take effect. You won’t even be conscious of it. No.2… Water, water and more water
If you didn’t know it by now, you should. We’re made of up to 60% of water. You would have heard the saying, water is the driving force of all nature. It’s true. What’s also true is how many people don’t drink enough of this natural, accessible resource. You need to drink at least 8 glasses a day. Hydration is the key. In the long term you’re less likely to suffer serious disease; in the short term you stay hydrated, your skin and eyes are clearer, you sleep better and your kidneys, immunity and digestive tract all function much more efficiently. No.3… Deep breathing routine
There is nothing quite like something as simple as a deep breathing routine. It is simple but extremely effective. Work out what times of the day works best for you – it only takes a couple of minutes each time. Try square breathing, which is a technique where you slowly breathe in for four, hold for four, breathe out for four, hold for four. Ten times will do it and try to allow at least three times a day. Maybe it’s first thing in the morning when you wake up? Maybe it’s when you sit somewhere quiet at lunchtime? Perhaps in the car or on the train on the way to work? Square breathing improves immunity, heightens performance, clears the mind, relaxes the body, improves concentration… the list goes on. Best of all its free. And easy.

This practice only requires 15 minutes up to an hour each week, or for those more motivated you can do it every day. Whether it’s a short session or a more comprehensive one-hour meditation, it’s awesome for anxiety and depression, it improves your sleep immensely, it relaxes you and is great for eradicating negativity and increasing energy.
No.5… Set your intentions!
This is my most important tip for becoming an improved version of yourself. Setting intentions is the most powerful tool so make the time to do it now. Write your intentions for the year ahead – emotional, mental, financial, spiritual, relationships… think about what you want to create for yourself for the year and write it down. Each month around full moon, it’s a powerful time to write your intentions for the upcoming month. Very important and powerful, so light a candle and do it with your partner, kids or on your own! We need to be clear with what we want to manifest. As Wayne Dyer once said: “You get what you intend to create by being in harmony with the power of intention which is responsible for all of creation.”
